Diaper dermatitis – treatment and management
Did you notice symptoms of diaper dermatitis in your baby? Be sure to take special care and maintain proper hygiene. We have prepared some tips that should be useful, also preventively, to minimize the development of skin lesions and inflammation in the diaper area.
1. It is preferable to let your child go without a diaper as much as possible. It can provide the necessary ventilation of the area where inflammation may appear and can also support the regeneration of the damaged epidermis.
2. Often change the child’s diapers. It is recommended to change a newborn’s diaper every hour and when it comes to infants – every 3-4 hours. If you have never used air-permeable diapers, do it. It is especially important if diaper dermatitis has already appeared in your child.
3. Check all of the preparations and cosmetics you use on a daily basis for your baby’s care. Check if there is a possibility that they may irritate the baby’s skin and if they contain any allergens.
4. Wash your baby after every diaper change, preferably with boiled water. Avoid rubbing the skin with inflammation and irritation with wet wipes, because they can only worsen the condition of the baby’s skin.
5. While changing the diaper, use appropriate creams, which can protect the skin from wetness and abrasions. It is worth stopping using baby oils and balms, which can irritate the skin.
6. Bathe the baby in irritant-relieving preparations. You can use those that are intended for use in children with atopic dermatitis.
